Heather Stevens
Heather trained her first dog in 1962, her family's German Shepherd Dog, Sparky, and her affinity with both dogs and horses grew from there.
In 1979 Heather went into Competition Obedience, with a Pointer/Lab cross, and then spent most of the 1980's and 90's organising her own obedience & fun dog shows to raise money for various dog charities. By the mid-1980's Heather had bought her first Rottie, CJ, and proceeded to show him and compete in Obedience, winning several trophies.
Throughout the late 80's/early 90's when Rotts were given a hard time and much bad press, Heather worked tirelessly rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned and abused Rotties.
Heather with Max and Yogi
Heather started her first Dog School in 1987 and has been teaching owners how to train their pets ever since. After moving to North Yorkshire in 2002, Heather created another dog training school, Canine Connexon, which has helped over 6000 dogs in 7 years.
In 2006, Heather became a Kennel Club Approved Examiner for the KC Good Citizen Scheme, giving her an in-depth understanding of all KC requirements for all Levels of the Scheme. Heather has also devised her own Platinum level for owners to progress to and achieve if they wish.
Heather is a Full Member of the Canine & Feline Behaviour Association; a Master Trainer Member of the Guild of Dog Trainers; a Member of the KC Accreditation Scheme for Instructors in Dog Training & Canine Behaviour, and specialises in the rehabilitation of rescue dogs, and Rottweilers.
As a Canine Behaviour Specialist, Heather is committed to helping owners to better understand how their dog communicates because a "behaviour problem" is usually a breakdown in communication.
Since 2002 Heather has also competed in Heelwork to Music, which is probably the most challenging of all the canine disciplines. She is also a Competition Obedience and Heelwork to Music Judge.
Heather is currently formalising her wealth of training & behaviour knowledge into a Masters Degree through the Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour & Training. She has trained with, and been influenced by, a number of top international trainers and behaviour experts, including Dr Ian Dunbar, Nicole Wilde, Kendal Shepherd, Angela White and the late, great, and exceptionally gifted Roy Hunter.
Educating the next generation of dog owners is another passion of Heather's - not only does she run fun training sessions for youngsters and their dogs, she also gives talks at schools and youth groups on the fun and responsibilities of dog ownership. Heather has an Enhanced CRB Disclosure and is an Educational Volunteer Speaker for the Blue Cross.
